SHOTOKAN KARATE-DO ALLIANCE INTERNATIONAL e.V.
The Shotokan Karate-Do Alliance International e.V. (SKAI) has been founded by Sensei Shinji Akita. It emanated from the Shotokan Karate Association (SKA), which was formed in Great Britain in May 2003.
SKAI is a non-profit, non-political organization which is open to all, regardless of gender, age, nationality or race. It is an alliance of like-minded groups and organizations, existing to promote high standards in traditional Shotokan Karate.
SKAI is a platform for Karate-ka to broaden their knowledge, for networking and information exchange.
It allows its members to access special events as national and international training courses and tournaments. Being provided with technical guidance, grading standards and syllabus, the members are being able to achieve an internationally acknowledged grading.
“My vision is of a world-wide alliance of Shotokan Karate associations and clubs, whose single aim is to uphold the disciplines and traditions of Karate-do whilst putting technical excellence and spirit before popularity, shortcuts, fame and material reward.”
Shinji Akita
SKAI Chief Instructor
Matsuda Hisashi Sensei, 7 Dan, SKAI Technical Director
Matsuda Sensei was born in Gifu, Japan, in 1949. He studied Judo at school and begun practicing Karate at the end of High School. In the 1970’s, Sensei was competing in various JKA championships, an experience he passed on to many of his students who have become very successful competitors later on. Matsuda Sensei’s Dojo in Gifu was opened during the same decade. Akita Sensei became one of his first students and still is influenced a lot by Matsuda Sensei—not only in the Dojo but also in life. Thanks to his way of teaching, Matsuda Sensei’s Dojo today is one of the most successful in Japan. But also in the rest of the world, Sensei is acknowledged as a great Karate instructor.
Aragane Yasuyuki Sensei, 7 Dan, SKAI Technical Director
Aragane Sensei was born in Kawasaki, Japan, in 1951. He studied Judo at school and begun practicing Karate at Hosei University in Tokyo. Due to his success in numerous tournaments, Aragane Sensei became team leader of the university Karate club and has guided his squad many times to the finals against the team of the Takushoku University. Later on, Aragane Sensei’s team won the JKA Kumite tournament. Sensei himself entered the quarter final of the JKA Championships. Aragane Sensei has spent two years teaching Karate in Germany. Afterwards, he moved back to Gifu. Today, Sensei partly lives near Dublin, Ireland, and Tokyo, Japan. He has experienced teaching Karate in many different countries.
Akita Shinji Sensei, 6 Dan, SKAI Chief Instructor
Akita Sensei was born in Gifu, Japan, in 1965. At the age of twelve, he started Karate under Matsuda Sensei and Aragane Sensei. At the age of eighteen, Akita Sensei joined Takudai Karate Club, Takushoku University, and trained under Tsuyama Sensei until the age of twenty two. During this period, Akita Sensei entered many competitions (JKA and JKF). In 1988, he moved to London, England, where he has trained under Kawasoe Sensei and became his assistant later on. Akita Sensei has been coach of the national squad team of Kawasoe Sensei’s organization. In 2003, Akita Sensei became independent and started teaching within the U.K., Europe and the rest of the World. Today, he lives in Germany.
